SEGOVIAWhy Segovia?
Segovia was originally chosen for this program for many reasons. The size of the town makes it easy for students to walk most places but there are still many of the amenities found in a much larger town. There are several attractions that bring tourists to Segovia, with three of them being the aqueduct, the alcázar, and the cathedral. Its proximity to Madrid, the addition of a high speed train line, and the ability to still maintain the charm of a sleepy pueblo makes Segovia the ideal location for what we do. |
Who is in Segovia?Segovia has two individuals who are essential to the success of the program and the enjoyment of the students: James McConnell
and Luis Encinas. I've been doing this program since 2007 and Luis has been doing some type of program in Segovia very similar to this one for over 30 years. We both love what we do and we're proud to show students a city and a country that we both love. Luis has been teaching the culture and history of Spain for over 40 years and his enthusiasm for what he does shines through every time we enter a cathedral, a museum, walk past any building; you get the point. He's a walking encyclopedia of Spain and we're very fortunate to have him. What about me? You can click on the "My Story" link above if you'd like to know. Follow our blog and join in on the adventure! ¡Hasta luego! |
Where will you go and what will you do?You'll have to follow to find out!
Seriously though, we'll do a lot. We'll visit major cities like Madrid, Barcelona, Toledo and Salamanca in addition to smaller pueblos like Ávila, Turégano and Pedraza. We'll kayak through canyons, amble through medieval towns, hike the hills in the surrounding area, visit UNESCO world heritage sites, explore museums, be amazed by cathedrals such as La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, sample local wines, and take in the cultural aspects of daily life as a Spaniard. Jealous yet? :) |
