For our kayaking adventure, we left early in the morning and took a bus to a nature reserve. It was a chilly morning but luckily the sun came out while we were on the water. There was a steep hill down to the water, but it was nice and sandy. Each kayak had two people, so we needed to use teamwork to move around the lake. The water was calm because the lake used to be a river before dams were installed. Luis (who wore shorts for the outing!) showed us a church from the eleventh century and the ruins of a monastery on the tops of the cliff. The reserve is home to vultures so we had to be careful to not be too loud and scare them off! After our kayaking trip was done and we had changed into some dry clothes, we went to a restaurant called El Riscal with some AMAZING food! We all had a good laugh when Ade ate a pig’s ear from his soup. This restaurant was special because they brought us thin slice of ox meat to cook on a plate over a hot rock. They brought nine plates for the eighteen of us and we finished them all! Getting to cook our own meat was fun and the food was delicious. For dessert we had ice cream, pastries, and fruit. On the way home we were all so full that we fell asleep. A very good lunch indeed! Link to vultures flying. Link to meat being cooked.

Kayaking was one of the most fun things we've done on this trip! I am so happy the weather turned out to be beautiful, I thought we were all going to freeze. I'm still a little salty I wasn't allowed to flip the boat, the water was so warm. Although in hindsight it was probably a good idea because I didn't bring a towel. Speaking of things I forgot, I really wish I brought some flip flops or another pair of shoes because walking around the rest of the day in shoes that were absolutely soaked was not very fun. Also, who knew ox tasted so good?!

Kayaking was a great way to unwind after the hustle and bustle of Barcelona! While I would have appreciated warmer weather, the water was calm and I had a great time, especially when some of us decided to do some impromptu karaoke! The view of the canyon and the birds was also gorgeous and made the trip that much more worthwhile! The restaurant we went to afterward was super interesting as well, since we got to cook our own ox meat!

I really enjoyed kayaking! Even though it was really cold it was an amazing bonding experience. We were all complaining in the beginning but once we started kayaking it warmed up a lot. We sang songs while we paddled and had a little race. Collin and I didn't do so great but it was still really fun. After we kayaked for a while, Luis showed us a monastery that was really cool. Then we paddled back and had some beer when we finished!
