Nearly everyone arrived to the airport at Madrid and all of their luggage made it as well. Due to flight delays, one student arrived later in the day and she was a total rock star and made it to Segovia on her own. Navigating an airport in a foreign country in a language that isn't your own is hard enough but compound that with needing to get to a bus station on the other side of town and find your way to a city you've never visited can be nerve wracking; especially when you haven't slept! Lauren - you're awesome!
The first day is always a bit odd because everyone is sleep deprived, including me. Everyone gets picked up at a random airport in a foreign country, they hop on a rented bus for 70 minutes, get off said bus and are immediately "accosted" by their host mother which at most times is a 50-60 year old woman who gives them a kiss on each cheek, drags them to their home, feeds them too much food, speaks Spanish to them very quickly and then tells them to take a nap. That sounds much worse when I see it in written form but honestly, it ends up being a positive experience. I think. I'm going to go with yes, it's positive. After meeting back at the school for an hour long orientation we took a walk to get acquainted with the city buy certain necessities and eventually head back home for some well deserved sleep. It's all good because now they're in Spain and it will be even better tomorrow. ¡Hasta luego!
